cleaning windows

When I saw that lino blocks are relatively affordable at Plaza, I naively decided to buy a bunch without any prior lino printing knowledge. How hard could it be?

Holiday thank-you card season was the perfect excuse to give it a try. I had this image of my frosty car window on the mind for a while:

After a little pencil sketch, I dove in and discovered that lino ink is THIC. Great for slow drying, not great for smooth, crisp layers. I also discovered that, duh, stamping is a mirror image! Oh well!

My final act was to create tiny leaf stamps for the third layer of ink. I ultimately made 9 prints, some better than others. It was both-parts maddening and satisfying - even more so with Van Morrison’s “Cleaning Windows” playing.
